Psionics Institute’s How-To Reference Guide: Meditation
Meditation is an important part of energy work and an important part of life in general. It helps clear the mind of stress and worry and allows your mind to transcend to another state of consciousness. The key to any successful meditation is calming your mind. You have to be able to settle your thoughts, everyday thoughts such as doing the laundry, going to work, paying the bills, etc. Those are the thoughts you want to settle and put in the back of your mind. Tools such as music, for example, can be useful in accomplishing this task. The whole point of meditation is to relax your mind, body, and spirit. If done correctly, it can effectively slow the heart rate, lower blood pressure, relieve tension, release negative energies, and create a sense of serenity. Some use different stones such as Amethyst, Carnelian, Labradorite, and many others, in order to quiet the mind, keep concentration/focus, and deepen the meditation. Below are some guided meditation techniques, provided by one of our retired teachers, Taetarthe, during class sessions.
Healing and Awareness Meditation Steps:
Meditation is relatively goal based. Alright, we’ll start with a healing meditation and we’ll move onto an awareness meditation afterward. We’re going to start with breathing. Starting with a deep, controlled breath in. Hold it for a moment, and then let it out. Hold a moment before you take another breath, and repeat. You can ease your breathing a bit now. You should be feeling a little more relaxed, and aware of what is going on around you/within your body.
Alright, we are going to turn our focus in to our energy. As you breathe, pay attention to the surrounding area. With each in breath, you will feel the intake of air and the feeling of your lungs expanding. You will feel your heart pumping. You should also feel an in flux of pressure as energy flows into you. Conversely, as you breathe out, you should feel this pressure lessen. This is geared for someone who doesn’t scan or sense on a regular basis, if you do, you are liable to actually track the flow of your energy as it moves through you. Don’t force anything. Just breathe, and pay attention to what is happening.
We should now turn our focus in toward one of our primary cores, right in our solar plexus. Focus on what energy is doing in there. You should continue to focus on your breathing, and paying attention to your energy. Feel free to explore it, really feel how it is moving. Keep your breathing at about the same rate, but turn your attention toward your energy, feel it as you would a construct.
Alright, now that we’re all well acquainted with our energy, we’re going to to a cycling cleanse of it. With each inward breath, feel fresh energy, outside of your normal loop flow into you. With each outward breath, feel the otherwise stagnant energy in your system get expelled from you. When I say you, I’m talking not just of your body, but your field too. As you breathe, I want you to focus on your solar plexus. Remove the stagnant energies from there first, and work your way outward throughout the rest of your body. If you feel a knot, or a tangle in your lines, breathe slowly, calmly, allow energy through your body, and let your body relax. Don’t necessarily try to untangle the flow. Just let it relax, into the proper position.
The next portion is easier said than done. But we’re going to attempt it anyway. Go back to focusing on your breathing. As you keep a steady breath, I want you to begin ‘just’ paying attention to what is going on around you. I recommend that you count the seconds or heartbeats it takes for each in breath, and each out breath if you have trouble keeping your attention. That is, focus on your breathing, but pay attention to everything else. For this, you may feel comfortable closing your eyes. Do this for 5 minutes, starting now. If you are having trouble keeping your attention on what is going on around you, just focus on your breathing. Alright, I believe that is enough for now. I recommend you all take a few breaths before you get up, and also as you are up. Normalize it slowly, stretch, grab a drink if you need to, etc.
Awareness Meditation Steps – More Indepth:
Alright, we’ll start with controlled breathing. Take a deep breath in, hold if for a moment, let it out, hold it, repeat. Use this breathing to reign in your focus and center yourself mentally. Then I want you to turn your attention to what your energy is doing inside your body as you breathe, your entire body. Don’t force it. I know the sense might be blurry. If that is too much for you, start with any one part of your body and then expand your awareness outward from there to the rest of your body. I will give you a few minutes to acquaint yourself. Alright, once you are comfortable, expand your awareness outward. Feel the way energy is moving and flowing related to your body, outside of your body, etc. And slowly, but surely with each breath, turn your focus further out. As your focus is expanded, be careful not to overextend yourself. If you begin to feel uncomfortable, dial it in just a bit. The idea is to continue to hold your awareness of this energy. I will give you a few minutes to relax and do this, at which point I will move onto something more intensive. Alright, what we will be doing now is saturation. For the sake of ease, we will pull energy up from the earth, and take it into ourselves, charging the body with each breath. As you do this, hold your awareness. Above all else, being aware of the energy is the most important. One thing I can not teach this session, but is important: separate awareness from focus. You can focus on one thing, but be aware of more than that. Take your time to ground yourself out and center yourself, then feel free to stand up, take a stretch, etc.
Meditation Tips:
Never allow yourself to get so lost in what you are feeling that you forget yourself. If you begin to stray, remind yourself of what you are doing.
